Until this episode, Hideaki Anno is credited as director along with co-director Hiroki Sato. From this episode on, Hideaki Anno's name is still credited, but written in katakana as アンノヒデアキ (anno hideaki) possibly as a form of protest. Michael S. Johnson of nausicaa.net having heard from a Gainax staff member, states Anno objected to the recent restrictions by TV Tokyo after the Pokémon seizure incident, and left the directing to co-worker Hiroki Sato.
